BAK Middle School Student Takes His Art Outside the Classroom to Star in an Opera

While many 13 year-olds are playing video games and text messaging with friends, Sidney O’Gorman is rehearsing for his role in Benjamin Britten’s The Turn of the Screw. O’Gorman sings the role of Miles, a young boy who has a large part this ghost story.

This isn’t the first Palm Beach Opera role for the young singer; he was in Carmen, Tosca, and Brundibar. O’Gorman is also an active and touring choral member of The Young Singers of the Palm Beaches and is active in both theater and singing at BAK Middle School of the Arts.

The Turn of the Screw runs April 12 and 14, 2013 at the Wold Performing Arts Center on the Lynn University Campus in Boca Raton.

Based on the Henry James novel, this haunting ghost story tells the tale of a governess who accepts a job caring for two young children in the country. When the ghosts begin to appear, their bucolic simplicity turns into a chilling struggle for the lives of the children. Hear Palm Beach Opera’s talented Young Artists in the lead roles accompanied by the Lynn University Philharmonia Orchestra for this exciting collaborative production.
