5 things you don’t want to miss at South Florida Fair 2017

The South Florida Fair is here! First weekend was a busy one – here are 5 things you need to know about the New Orleans themed South Florida Fair 2017!

1. Mardi Gras in Florida

There is nothing more New Orleans than street performers, and the South Florida fair has lined up daily shows that continue the Mardi Gras theme.

  • Reginald Ellison & His Sax
  • Reclaim Brash Band
  • The Procrastinators Trash Can Band
  • Conjurer Fortune Machine
  • The Jass Phools
  • Funky Gumbo
  • Brad Bodary – Human Mannequin
  • Mardi Gras Billy

Get more information about the street performers here.

Each day of the 2017 South Florida Fair, the fair’s own parade, complete with seven Mardi Gras-themed floats, rolls through the fairgrounds.

2. Fat Tuesday $2 Deal

The best deal of all times is that you can get into the South Florida Fair for $2 on Tuesday the 17th and the 24th.

Fairgoers can stroll their way through food booths sampling everything from a slice of cheese pizza, two beignets, a small Greek salad, a hot dog, two fried Oreos, a small king cake, a pair of pickle spears, and more – all for $2 each.

If you enjoyed the SKA music of the 90s, you’ll be happy to hear that Reel Big Fish is performing on Tuesday the 24th. For the $2 fair entrance fee, plus $2 bites, I’m sure this is going to be a really great time.

Check out South Florida Fair’s deal page to see lots of other deals.

3. WPTV’s Live Webcam

I’ve been obsessed with this live “Faircam” that WPTV has set up. The different views that the faircam gives includes a live look at the Community Stage, a look down Midway, a view of the ferris wheel as well as inside the “Fair French Market”.

4. A new Miss South Florida Fair was crowned

To become Miss America, a contestant must first win a local competition like the Miss South Florida Fair Scholarship Pageant, and then compete to represent her state at the Miss Florida Pageant. It does not cost a cent to compete in the Miss America program.

Congratulations to our new Miss South Florida Fair

And the newly crowned Miss South Florida Fair makes her obligatory tweet about kissing a pig and birthing a cow.

5. Get in on the Social Media Fun

No matter how big a South Florida Fair fan you are, you’re not going to catch everything at the Fair. Thankfully, social media has you covered. Follow the South Florida Fair accounts:

Or you can just follow the #SoFlaFair Hashtag.

Here are some of my favorite tweets from the first weekend at the fair.

Wellington is one if the many of Palm Beach County municipalities who are exhibiting at the South Florida Fair and they created a cool video that shows how to find them.

This is my favorite picture from this weekend. There is nothing better than sunset at South Florida Fair

Again this year, Team Sandtastic got some of SandiTree’s sand and repurposed it into great sand sculptures at the fair.

And of course, we can always count of Kevin and JBird to make a scene and having some good “clean” fun. So here is Kevin and Jbird from the KVJShow doing “The Messy Rollercoaster” – don’t try this at home.
