The library offers a summer filled with reading, learning, entertainment and lots of fun for kids, teens and adults, as well as free lunches for ages 18 and under. Summer@yourCityLibrary features a summer reading program that encourages the entire family to read with weekly prizes, unlimited free events and activities for all ages, and free nutritious lunches for kids and teens. The seven-week program takes place June 9 – July 27, 2019 with a variety of new activities, lectures, classes, games and more.
Summer Reading Program
New this year to the Summer Reading Program is the Beanstack app, making it super easy to track and log your reading hours digitally on your phone, computer or tablet. By keeping a reading log with the recommended reading times, kids and teens will receive a free best-selling book each week and be entered into a weekly gift card drawing. The app provides an easy tool to track reading goals, recommended reading lists (by age groups, interests, school requirements and more), and the chance to collect badges for attending library programs giving kids extra chances to win. The library recommends making reading a priority for kids and teens during their school break to prevent the summer slide and stimulate their minds.
Summer reading is not just for kids. Adults can also logs their summer reads using the Beanstack app and enter for their own weekly gift card prizes. Families can read together and register under one account for multiple family members, so adults can easily model this important behavior for the children in the lives.
The free gift books for the Summer Reading program are donated by the West Palm Beach Library Foundation, which supports the vital and valued community programming at the library. The foundation will give away over 2,500 books this summer and encourages kids to keep these books and start a personal library that will foster a love of reading for years to come.
Free Events & Activities
The Mandel Public Library of West Palm Beach will also offer FREE, unlimited programs and activities this summer to engage kids, teens and adults. There are endless areas to explore including art, fitness, science, dance, crafting, technology, music, history, and more.
Kids can enjoy programs like Summer Break Indoor Soccer, Hip-Hop for Kids, Dog Tales, Itsy Bitsy Yoga, Tech Labs, South Florida Science Center classes, and Universe of Stories Weekly Hands-On Activities. Additional activities include family storytimes, play dates, arts and crafts, movies, games, video games, technology labs and so much more. Plus, the library will offer summer academies for kids and teens providing group tutoring sessions led by certified teachers.
Teens can join other teens in programs such as YA Book Club, Robotics Lab, Game Days, Crafting Workshops, Teen Chopped, or just get out of the heat in the dedicated Teen Chill Zone. While adults can participate in daily fitness classes, Studio 411 arts and crafts classes, a variety of learning lectures, plus enjoy new “Grab & Go Art” to create masterpieces on their own time and a new Pop-Up Studio 411 Studio in KidSpace to enjoy while the kids are nearby in their own activity.

Free Meals for Kids/Teens
The Mandel Public Library of West Palm Beach, in partnership with the School District of Palm Beach County, is bringing back free meals for kids and teens when school lunches are not available. During the summer the library becomes an official Summer BreakSpot and offers FREE nutritious lunches and snacks during their summer program to kids and teens ages 18 and under. The free meals program helps to eliminate barriers so all members of the public can enjoy and access important library services. The lunches and snacks are offered on weekdays, June 4 – July 26, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the 3rd floor in Kidspace. This program is sponsored by the USDA Summer Food Service Program.

Library patrons can also Connect 24/7 to the digital library and access thousands of FREE e-books, audiobooks, movies, music, and more online. Using the library’s free apps, cardholders can access materials on their devices, perfect for on-the-go entertainment whether at home, on a road trip, at the beach or on vacation. And as a bonus, all items borrowed digitally will be automatically returned…that means no late fees!
